SAS launches Visual Analytics

SAS has launched Visual Analytics. The claims for the new product are that it can be used for Big Data, accessed on inexpensive non-proprietary hardware, is near instantaneous and can be used for data exploration.

Visual Analytics accesses SAS LASR Analytic servers using Hadoop local storage. This can allow access to data consisting of billions of rows that most relational database systems are not capable of analysing. Within the Visual Analytics offerings is a mobile ap available from iTunes, for 'viewing reports, connecting to servers and downloading information on the go'. SAS comment that its LASR servers begin with a configuration containing 768GB of memory and 4.8 terabytes of storage and with an upper end of 9.2 terabytes of memory and 57.6 terabytes of storage.
